High CFM Hood + Tight House = Problems

I just read a lengthy article, Makeup Air for Range Hoods by Martin Halladay on Green Building Advisor, about high CFM (cubic feet per minute) range hoods and the problems they cause in homes that are sealed tight.

The article quotes a homeowner as saying her range hood pulls ashes out of her fireplace halfway across the room. Pretty astonishing!

Before you plan a heavy duty range hood, read this article. And if you tighten up your home AFTER the fact, or have a hood that is back-drafting from your fireplace or other vented appliance, here is a video solution from Matt Risinger.
